How To Resize DWC Drywall Repair Plugs
Follow all safety instructions and guidelines when working on a ladder or scaffold.
Resizing The DWC Drywall Repair Plug will require the following items.
A sharp razor knife, box cutter or utility knife: You'll be scoring the back of the drywall so the blade you use must be as sharp as possible.
A sturdy table or work surface: Because you'll be working with extremely sharp tools the surface you work on must be stable at all times.
A quality tape measure: You'll need a good tape measure to take and transfer measurements to and from the damaged drywall/drywall patch.
IMPORTANT: Only single layer DWC Drywall Plugs are capable of being resized.
Follow all safety instructions and guidelines when working on a ladder or scaffold.
Step 1: Use a tape measure to get an exact measurement of your existing hole. Then transfer that measurement(s) to the back of the patch using a pencil or other marker.
Take the time to measure correctly.
Step 2: Once your measurements have been marked out on the drywall patch use your utility knife or other tool to score the drywall patch on the outside edge of the line. Always score on the outside of the line.
Step 3: After you've scored the drywall patch move it to the table edge with the score cut just over the edge. Work on one resize at a time. If 2 resize cuts are needed make sure the first is 100% complete.
Step 4: With the patch score just over the edge of the table use your hand to apply a quick downward motion to the part of the patch you want removed.
Step 5: Carefully hold the patch and peel the excess drywall away from the patch. Use a rolling motion when you peel.
Step 6: Continue peeling using a smooth rolling motion while holding the drywall patch steady on the table.
Step 7: This is what a resized drywall patch should look like. A couple layers of paper from the drywall used in the manufacturing of The DWC Drywall Patch staying on the face material is normal and expected.
Step 8: Before installing the resized drywall patch make sure to cover the drywall face paper exposed from the resize with joint compound. This will not affect the quality of the repair in any aspect.
Step 9: When patch including resized area paper is loaded with joint compound follow the installation instructions to get a great drywall repair and a finish that would make a professional proud.
Plugs with more than a single layer of drywall are not resizable
